Intended Use

The ESTECH Cobra Bipolar II System is intended for the coagulation of soft tissue during general surgery. The system may also be used to coagulate blood and soft tissue to produce hemostasis.

Device Story

The ESTECH Cobra Bipolar II System is a surgical clamp-style electrosurgical device used to deliver RF energy to target tissue. The device operates in a bipolar mode, utilizing one jaw as an ablative electrode and the other as an indifferent electrode. It is intended for use by surgeons in general surgery settings to coagulate soft tissue and achieve hemostasis. The system features rotatable jaws and a single-use clamp design to improve physician convenience. The device is manually operated by the surgeon during procedures.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Data demonstrated that mechanical aspects (joints) are adequate for use and electrode performance is equivalent to the predicate. Biocompatibility was verified per ISO 10993, and electrical safety was confirmed per IEC 60601-2-2.

Technological Characteristics

Electrosurgical cutting and coagulation device; bipolar RF energy delivery; clamp-style form factor with rotatable jaws; single-use. Biocompatibility per ISO 10993; electrical safety per IEC 60601-2-2.

Indications for Use

Indicated for coagulation of soft tissue and hemostasis during general surgery.

The system may also be used to coagulate blood and soft tissue to produce hemostasis. {1}------------------------------------------------ #### Endoscopic Technologies, Inc. ESTECH Cobra Bipolar II Svstem Special Premarket Notification ### e. Comparison to Predicate Device The ESTECH Cobra Bipolar II System is identical in indications for use, technology, manufacture, packaging and sterilization to the predicate ESTECH Cobra Bipolar System (K053100). There are small design differences between the application and predicate devices. These design differences (rotatable jaws, single use clamp) provide a convenience for the physician, but do not alter the performance profile seen in the predicate device. ESTECH concludes that the ESTECH Cobra Bipolar II System is substantially equivalent to the predicate ESTECH Cobra Bipolar System. #### f. Summary of Supporting Data The bench testing supplied in Section 18 demonstrates that the joints and other mechanical aspects of the design of the ESTECH Cobra Bipolar II System are adequate for use. Additionally, the data demonstrates that the performance of the ESTECH Cobra Bipolar II System electrodes is equivalent to that of the predicate. The patient contacting materials of the ESTECH Cobra Bipolar II System have been demonstrated to be biocompatible, in accordance with ISO 10993: Biological Evaluation of Medical Devices, and the safety of the electrical design is in conformance with the pertinent sections of IEC 60601-2-2: Medical electrical equipment - Part 2-2: Particular requirements for the safety of high frequency surgical equipment. {2}------------------------------------------------ Image /page/2/Picture/1 description: The image shows the seal of the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) of the United States.
