Device Story

The TWINFIX Ultra PK is a screw-in suture anchor system used by orthopedic surgeons for soft tissue-to-bone reattachment. The device consists of a PEEK (polyetheretherketone) anchor preloaded with ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene suture, preassembled onto a stainless steel inserter. During surgery, the surgeon uses the inserter to drive the anchor into bone, securing the soft tissue. The device provides mechanical fixation to facilitate healing. It is intended for use in various orthopedic procedures, including rotator cuff, Bankart, and ligament repairs. The device is provided sterile for single-use.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Performance testing demonstrated that the insertion and fixation properties of the TWINFIX Ultra PK are substantially equivalent to the predicate device.

Technological Characteristics

Materials: PEEK (polyetheretherketone) anchor, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene suture, stainless steel inserter. Design: Screw-in suture anchor. Sizes: 4.5, 5.5, and 6.5 mm diameters. Sterilization: Ethylene Oxide (EO).

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients requiring soft tissue-to-bone reattachment in shoulder, foot/ankle, knee, and elbow procedures, including ligament, tendon, and capsular repairs/reconstructions.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A smooth or threaded metallic bone fixation fastener is a device intended to be implanted that consists of a stiff wire segment or rod made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum and stainless steel, and that may be smooth on the outside, fully or partially threaded, straight or U-shaped; and may be either blunt pointed, sharp pointed, or have a formed, slotted head on the end. It may be used for fixation of bone fractures, for bone reconstructions, as a guide pin for insertion of other implants, or it may be implanted through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.
