Device Story

WedgeLoc™ 2.5mm Suture Anchor with Opti-Fiber™ Suture is a bone fixation fastener; used by orthopedic surgeons in clinical settings (OR). Device functions as a mechanical anchor to secure sutures to bone during soft tissue repair procedures. Surgeon inserts anchor into pre-drilled bone site; anchor provides fixation for sutures used to reattach tendons or ligaments. Benefits include stable soft tissue-to-bone fixation, facilitating healing in shoulder, knee, foot/ankle, hand/wrist, and elbow surgeries. Output is the physical fixation of the suture to the bone, which the surgeon uses to complete the repair. No software or electronic components involved.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data provided; substantial equivalence is based on technological characteristics and design similarities to predicate devices.

Technological Characteristics

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A smooth or threaded metallic bone fixation fastener is a device intended to be implanted that consists of a stiff wire segment or rod made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum and stainless steel, and that may be smooth on the outside, fully or partially threaded, straight or U-shaped; and may be either blunt pointed, sharp pointed, or have a formed, slotted head on the end. It may be used for fixation of bone fractures, for bone reconstructions, as a guide pin for insertion of other implants, or it may be implanted through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.
