Intended Use
The PROFEMUR® Hip System Modular Necks are indicated for use in total hip arthroplasty for reduction or relief of pain and/or improved hip function in skeletally mature patients with the following conditions: 1. non-inflammatory degenerative joint disease such as osteoarthritis, avascular necrosis, ankylosis, protrusio acetabuli, and painful hip dysplasia; 2. inflammatory degenerative joint disease such as rheumatoid arthritis; 3. correction of functional deformity; and, 4. revision procedures where other treatments or devices have failed Modular necks can be used during either cemented femoral and acetabular arthroplasty.
Device Story
PROFEMUR® Hip System Modular Necks are orthopedic implants used in total hip arthroplasty. Device consists of cobalt chrome alloy modular necks featuring a 12/14 SLT tapered cone for connection to femoral heads. Available in multiple lengths and versions to accommodate patient anatomy. Used by orthopedic surgeons in clinical/OR settings during cemented or uncemented hip replacement procedures. The modular design allows for intraoperative adjustment of femoral neck length and version, assisting the surgeon in restoring hip biomechanics, joint stability, and limb length. Benefits include pain relief and improved hip function for patients with degenerative joint disease or those requiring revision surgery.
Clinical Evidence
No clinical data provided; bench testing only.
Technological Characteristics
Manufactured from Cobalt Chrome Alloy. Features 12/14 SLT tapered cone for modular femoral head connection. Offered in two length options, each with six versions. Designed for use in cemented or uncemented femoral and acetabular arthroplasty.
Indications for Use
Indicated for skeletally mature patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty for non-inflammatory degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis, avascular necrosis, ankylosis, protrusio acetabuli, painful hip dysplasia), inflammatory degenerative joint disease (rheumatoid arthritis), functional deformity correction, or revision procedures.
Regulatory Classification
Identification
A hip joint metal/metal semi-constrained, with an uncemented acetabular component, prosthesis is a two-part device intended to be implanted to replace a hip joint. The device limits translation and rotation in one or more planes via the geometry of its articulating surfaces. It has no linkage across-the-joint. This generic type of device includes prostheses that consist of a femoral and an acetabular component, both made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum. The femoral component is intended to be fixed with bone cement. The acetabular component is intended for use without bone cement (§ 888.3027).
