Intended Use
Blue Sky Plan is intended to be used as conversion software for Computed Tomography (CT) generated DICOM images into a format that allows a dentist to assess the anatomic topography of the maxilla and mandible as well as location of important structures. It allows the information to be used for pre-surgical treatment planning of dental implant procedures. The Blue Sky Plan software is deployed on standard personal computer hardware using a Windows operating system.
Device Story
Blue Sky Plan is dental imaging software for pre-surgical dental implant planning. It accepts DICOM images from CT scanners as input. The software performs 3D visualization and 2D image reformation, allowing dentists to assess maxilla and mandible anatomy and critical structure locations. It facilitates virtual implant positioning and surgical stent fabrication. Used in dental clinics by dentists on standard Windows-based PCs. The output assists clinicians in treatment planning and surgical preparation, potentially improving implant placement accuracy and patient outcomes.
Clinical Evidence
No clinical data provided; substantial equivalence based on technological characteristics and intended use comparison to predicate devices.
Technological Characteristics
Dental imaging software for 3D visualization and 2D reformation of CT DICOM images. Operates on standard Windows-based personal computer hardware. No specific materials, energy sources, or sterilization methods applicable as it is software-only.
Indications for Use
Indicated for dentists to assess maxilla and mandible anatomic topography and structure location using CT-generated DICOM images for pre-surgical dental implant treatment planning.
Regulatory Classification
Identification
A medical image management and processing system is a device that provides one or more capabilities relating to the review and digital processing of medical images for the purposes of interpretation by a trained practitioner of disease detection, diagnosis, or patient management. The software components may provide advanced or complex image processing functions for image manipulation, enhancement, or quantification that are intended for use in the interpretation and analysis of medical images. Advanced image manipulation functions may include image segmentation, multimodality image registration, or 3D visualization. Complex quantitative functions may include semi-automated measurements or time-series measurements.
Special Controls
*Classification.* Class II (special controls; voluntary standards—Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) Std., Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) Std., Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) Test Pattern).
