Intended Use

The Masimo Compatible Saturation Module, E-MASIMO, and accessories are indicated for monitoring arterial oxygen saturation and pulse rate of hospitalized patients. The device is indicated for use by qualified medical personnel only.

Device Story

E-MASIMO is a single-width plug-in parameter module for GE Datex-Ohmeda S/5 modular monitoring systems. It measures noninvasive arterial oxygen saturation (SpO2) and pulse rate using light transillumination (infrared and red light sources) and a photosensitive detector. The module integrates MasimoSET® technology to process optical signals into SpO2 and pulse rate values. Used in clinical settings (anesthesia, critical care) by qualified medical personnel. Output is displayed on the host monitor to assist clinicians in patient monitoring and decision-making. Benefits include continuous, noninvasive physiological monitoring of hospitalized patients.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. No clinical data provided. Evidence includes risk analysis, requirements reviews, design reviews, subsystem verification, integration testing, final acceptance testing (validation), performance testing, safety testing, and environmental testing.

Technological Characteristics

Single-width plug-in module for S/5 modular monitors. Sensing principle: optical light transillumination (red/infrared) with photosensitive detector. Integrates MasimoSET® OEM measurement board. Connectivity: proprietary interface for Datex-Ohmeda S/5, AS/3, and CS/3 monitor platforms. Compatible with specific monitor software versions (e.g., S-STD94, S-ANE97, S-ICU97).

Indications for Use

Indicated for monitoring arterial oxygen saturation and pulse rate of hospitalized patients. For use by qualified medical personnel only.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

An oximeter is a device used to transmit radiation at a known wavelength(s) through blood and to measure the blood oxygen saturation based on the amount of reflected or scattered radiation. It may be used alone or in conjunction with a fiberoptic oximeter catheter.
