Intended Use
The Sysmex® XS-1000iC is an automated hematology analyzer for in vitro diagnostic use in clinical laboratories and reference laboratories. The XS-1000iC will extend MCV stability to 48 hours.
Device Story
Sysmex XS-1000iC is an automated hematology analyzer for clinical/reference labs. It processes whole blood samples (manual, capillary, or auto-loader modes) to provide 21 hematology parameters. Principle of operation: flow cytometry with semiconductor laser for WBC/differential; Hydro Dynamic Focusing for RBC/platelets; Sodium Lauryl Sulfate method for hemoglobin. System includes main unit, auto-loader, and information processing unit. Modification kit (hardware/software/reagent Cellsheath C) enables 48-hour MCV stability. Data processed by internal unit; results displayed for clinician review to aid hematological assessment. Benefits include extended sample stability for MCV, reducing need for immediate re-draws.
Clinical Evidence
No clinical data provided. Substantial equivalence established via bench testing and comparison to predicate XE-2100DC performance data.
Technological Characteristics
Automated hematology analyzer using sheath flow DC detection, semiconductor laser flow cytometry, and SLS-hemoglobin method. Includes auto-loader and IPU. Modification kit includes heating block and tubing changes for RBC/PLT dilution. Connectivity via host computer interface and printer. Class II device.
Indications for Use
Indicated for in vitro diagnostic use in clinical and reference laboratories to provide automated hematology analysis, including 21 blood parameters (WBC, RBC, HGB, HCT, MCV, MCH, MCHC, PLT, MPV, RDW-SD, RDW-CV, and 5-part differential counts).
Regulatory Classification
Identification
An automated differential cell counter is a device used to identify one or more of the formed elements of the blood. The device may also have the capability to flag, count, or classify immature or abnormal hematopoietic cells of the blood, bone marrow, or other body fluids. These devices may combine an electronic particle counting method, optical method, or a flow cytometric method utilizing monoclonal CD (cluster designation) markers. The device includes accessory CD markers.
Special Controls
*Classification.* Class II (special controls). The special control for this device is the FDA document entitled “Class II Special Controls Guidance Document: Premarket Notifications for Automated Differential Cell Counters for Immature or Abnormal Blood Cells; Final Guidance for Industry and FDA.”

Dear Ms. Gamperling:
We have reviewed your Section 510(k) premarket notification of intent to market the device referenced above and have determined the device is substantially equivalent (for the indications for use stated in the enclosure) to legally marketed predicate devices marketed in interstate commerce prior to May 28, 1976, the enactment date of the Medical Device Amendments, or to devices that have been reclassified in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (Act) that do not require approval of a premarket approval application (PMA). You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general controls provisions of the Act. The general controls provisions of the Act include requirements for annual registration, listing of devices, good manufacturing practice, labeling, and prohibitions against misbranding and adulteration.
If your device is classified (see above) into either class II (Special Controls) or class III (PMA), it may be subject to such additional controls. Existing major regulations affecting your device can be found in Title 21, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Parts 800 to 895. In addition, FDA may publish further announcements concerning your device in the Federal Register.
