Intended Use

PressureWire® is designed to fit inside a percutaneous catheter for the purpose of directing the catheter through a vessel. The signal output from the senor is used for calculation and presentation of any physiological parameters, functions or indices based on temperature or pressure, e.g. Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR). The indication has been modified to address that the device is not only suitable for usage within peripheral and coronary vessels but also for intracardiac measurements within the actual heart.

Device Story

PressureWire® is a .014" guidewire with integrated pressure and temperature sensors. It functions as a guidewire to navigate percutaneous catheters through coronary, peripheral, and intracardiac vessels. The device captures physiological pressure and temperature signals, transmitting them to a diagnostic computer or hemodynamic recording system. The PressureWire® Aeris version utilizes 2.4 GHz frequency hopping radio transmission to send signals to a receiver, replacing physical cables. Healthcare providers, such as interventional cardiologists, use the output to calculate physiological indices like Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR) to assess vessel stenosis. This data assists in clinical decision-making regarding revascularization or treatment strategies, potentially improving patient outcomes by providing real-time hemodynamic assessment during catheterization procedures.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Electrical safety, EMC, radio frequency, sterilization, and performance testing were conducted to verify that the device meets specifications and is substantially equivalent to predicate devices.

Technological Characteristics

0.014" guidewire with integrated pressure and temperature sensors. Wireless signal transmission via 2.4 GHz frequency hopping (Aeris version). Output compliant with ANSI/AAMI BP22 standard. Guidewire construction identical to K062769.

Indications for Use

Indicated for directing a catheter through a blood vessel and measuring physiological parameters in the heart, coronary, and peripheral blood vessels.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A catheter tip pressure transducer is a device incorporated into the distal end of a catheter. When placed in the bloodstream, its mechanical or electrical properties change in relation to changes in blood pressure. These changes are transmitted to accessory equipment for processing.
