Intended Use

The subject Legion Stems with Holes are intended to be used with femoral and tibial components of the Legion Revision Knee System. The Revision Knee System Components are indicated for: 1. Rheumatoid arthritis. 2. Post-traumatic arthritis, osteoarthritis, or degenerative arthritis in older patients whose age, weight, and activity levels are compatible with an adequate long-term result. 3. Failed osteotomies, unicompartmental replacement, or total knee replacement. 4. The constrained knee systems are designed for use in patients in primary and revision surgery, where the posterior cruciate ligament and one or both of the collateral ligaments (i.e. medial collateral and/or lateral collateral ligament) are absent or incompetent.

Device Story

Legion Stems with Holes are orthopedic revision knee stems designed for use with Legion Revision Knee System femoral and tibial components. Manufactured from titanium alloy, these stems feature distal fixation holes to facilitate secure attachment. Available in various lengths and diameters to accommodate patient anatomy. Used by orthopedic surgeons in clinical settings during primary or revision knee arthroplasty. The device provides structural support and fixation for the knee prosthesis in patients with ligamentous instability or failed previous surgeries. The distal fixation mechanism enhances stability within the intramedullary canal.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data provided. Substantial equivalence is based on design, material, and technological characteristics compared to legally marketed predicate devices.

Technological Characteristics

Titanium alloy revision knee stems with distal fixation holes. Semi-constrained design. Dimensions vary by length and diameter. Intended for use with cemented femoral and tibial components. No software or electronic components.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients with rheumatoid arthritis, post-traumatic arthritis, osteoarthritis, or degenerative arthritis requiring knee replacement, including failed prior osteotomies or replacements. Constrained systems indicated for primary or revision surgery where posterior cruciate and/or collateral ligaments are absent or incompetent.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A knee joint patellofemorotibial polymer/metal/polymer semi-constrained cemented prosthesis is a device intended to be implanted to replace a knee joint. The device limits translation and rotation in one or more planes via the geometry of its articulating surfaces. It has no linkage across-the-joint. This generic type of device includes prostheses that have a femoral component made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, and a tibial component or components and a retropatellar resurfacing component made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. This generic type of device is limited to those prostheses intended for use with bone cement (§ 888.3027).
