Intended Use

The Knee/Foot/Ankle Coil is a receive-only coil, used for obtaining diagnostic images of knee, foot, ankle and lower leg in conjunction with a PHILIPS 1.5T MRI scanner. These images when interpreted by a trained physician, yielding information that may assist in diagnosis.

Device Story

The CG-KFC18-H150-AP is a 4-channel phased array, receive-only MRI coil. It consists of a base plate with cable, a knee part, and a foot part. Combining the base with the knee part or the foot part enables diagnostic imaging of the knee, foot, ankle, and lower leg. The device is used in clinical settings with a PHILIPS 1.5T MRI scanner. It captures magnetic resonance signals which are processed by the MRI system to produce 2D/3D images (proton density, T1, T2, time of flight, phase contrast). A trained physician interprets these images to assist in clinical diagnosis. The coil provides anatomical visualization to aid in patient assessment.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Performance evaluation compared the device's signal-to-noise ratio and image uniformity against the 473PH-64Quadrature lower extremity coil predicate. Results showed the device achieved equivalent or superior signal-to-noise ratios and similar image uniformity.

Technological Characteristics

4-channel phased array, receive-only MRI coil. Compatible with PHILIPS 1.5T MRI systems. Modular design consisting of base plate, knee part, and foot part. Supports 2D/3D imaging, proton density, T1/T2 weighted, time of flight, and phase contrast sequences.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients requiring diagnostic MRI imaging of the knee, foot, ankle, and lower leg. Used in conjunction with a PHILIPS 1.5T MRI scanner. For prescription use only.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A magnetic resonance diagnostic device is intended for general diagnostic use to present images which reflect the spatial distribution and/or magnetic resonance spectra which reflect frequency and distribution of nuclei exhibiting nuclear magnetic resonance. Other physical parameters derived from the images and/or spectra may also be produced. The device includes hydrogen-1 (proton) imaging, sodium-23 imaging, hydrogen-1 spectroscopy, phosphorus-31 spectroscopy, and chemical shift imaging (preserving simultaneous frequency and spatial information).

Special Controls

*Classification.* Class II (special controls). A magnetic resonance imaging disposable kit intended for use with a magnetic resonance diagnostic device only is exempt from the premarket notification procedures in subpart E of part 807 of this chapter subject to the limitations in § 892.9.
