Intended Use

The Kirwan 45.XXX and 65.XXX Series of Aneurysm Clips are intended for either temporary or permanent occlusion of intracranial aneurysms. They are also intended to be applied exclusively with the Kirwan 45.XXX and 65.XXX Series Appliers.

Device Story

Kirwan 45.XXX and 65.XXX series consist of metallic aneurysm clips and corresponding appliers. Clips are used by neurosurgeons in an OR setting to achieve temporary or permanent occlusion of intracranial aneurysms. Appliers are manual instruments designed exclusively for the placement of these specific clips. The device functions via mechanical clamping action to isolate the aneurysm from blood flow. Safety is established through compliance with established material and performance standards for neurosurgical implants.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Compliance with ISO 9713 (neurosurgical implants), ISO 5832 series (titanium/cobalt-chromium alloys), and ASTM F67, F1058, and F136 standards for surgical implant materials.

Technological Characteristics

Materials: Unalloyed titanium (ISO 5832-2, ASTM F67), Wrought titanium 6-aluminum 4-vanadium alloy (ISO 5832-3, ASTM F136), and Wrought cobalt-chromium-nickel-molybdenum-iron alloy (ISO 5832-7, ASTM F1058). Mechanical clamping mechanism. Manual operation via dedicated appliers. Sterilization per standard medical device practices.

Indications for Use

Indicated for temporary or permanent occlusion of intracranial aneurysms in patients requiring neurosurgical intervention.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

An aneurysm clip is a device used to occlude an intracranial aneurysm (a balloonlike sac formed on a blood vessel) to prevent it from bleeding or bursting.
