Device Story
ReNu Medical Reprocessed ALP®1 Calf Garment is a reprocessed, non-invasive, pneumatic compression sleeve for limb therapy. Device functions as a component of a sequential compression system; it wraps around the calf (up to 18" circumference) to provide external compression. Used in home and institutional settings to prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism; also used for intra-operative compression therapy. Reprocessing involves cleaning and validation to ensure performance and biocompatibility remain equivalent to original device. Healthcare providers or patients apply the sleeve; device operates via connection to an external pneumatic pump (not included). Output is mechanical compression of the limb, which aids venous blood flow and reduces stasis, thereby reducing DVT risk.
Clinical Evidence
Bench testing only. Validation data provided to demonstrate that reprocessing does not impact device safety or performance.
Technological Characteristics
Pneumatic compression sleeve for calf application. Materials, design, and energy source are identical to predicate devices. Reprocessed device; no specific material standards or software/algorithm components described.
Indications for Use
Indicated for patients in home and institutional settings for DVT and pulmonary embolism prevention. Contraindicated for patients with dermatitis, gangrene, recent skin grafts, untreated infected wounds, congestive heart failure, severe arteriosclerosis, ischemic vascular disease, pulmonary edema, or known/suspected DVT or phlebitis.
Regulatory Classification
Identification
A compressible limb sleeve is a device that is used to prevent pooling of blood in a limb by inflating periodically a sleeve around the limb.
