Intended Use

The NOW Huber Clear™ Safety Infusion Set is a safety IV administration set with a noncoring, ninety-degree, right-angle Huber needle, used to access surgically implanted vascular ports. The Huber needle is used to administer fluids or to withdraw blood. The Huber Clear™ system facilitates safe removal of the needle by encapsulating the needle within the attachment wings to help prevent needlestick injuries when using the device for vascular port access.

Device Story

Non-coring, 90-degree right-angle Huber needle and administration set; includes passive needlestick prevention feature. Used to access surgically implanted vascular ports for fluid infusion or blood sampling. Operated by clinicians; needle inserted into port in standard manner. Upon removal, passive safety mechanism automatically encapsulates needle within attachment wings; provides tactile, visual, and audible confirmation of secure needle cover. Benefits include reduction of needlestick injuries during vascular port access.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Simulated use study performed to evaluate safety feature performance; results showed no incidences of sharps injuries and no failures of the safety mechanism activation.

Technological Characteristics

Biocompatible, medical grade materials; 90-degree right-angle Huber needle; passive mechanical safety feature for needle encapsulation. Single-use, sterile, nonpyrogenic. No software or electronic components.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients requiring access to surgically implanted vascular ports for fluid administration or blood withdrawal.
