Intended Use

Needle-Free Self Injection Device for Personal Use with Saizen® [somatropin (rDNA origin) for injection].

Device Story

The cool.click® is a non-electrically powered, needle-free jet injector designed for personal, self-administered subcutaneous delivery of Saizen® (somatropin). The device uses mechanical energy to propel the medication through the skin without a needle. It is intended for use by patients in a home setting. By eliminating the need for traditional needles, the device aims to improve patient compliance and comfort during growth hormone replacement therapy. The device design and function remain unchanged from the predicate; this submission solely updates the labeling to include adult indications for use consistent with the drug product.

Clinical Evidence

No new clinical or nonclinical tests were conducted. The submission relies on previously submitted pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies from the predicate (K994384), which demonstrated bioequivalence between needle and needle-free delivery of growth hormone in adults.

Technological Characteristics

Non-electrically powered, needle-free jet injector. Mechanical actuation. Handheld form factor for personal use. No software or electronic components.

Indications for Use

Indicated for needle-free self-injection of Saizen® (somatropin) for replacement of endogenous growth hormone in adults with growth hormone deficiency.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A nonelectrically powered fluid injector is a nonelectrically powered device used by a health care provider to give a hypodermic injection by means of a narrow, high velocity jet of fluid which can penetrate the surface of the skin and deliver the fluid to the body. It may be used for mass inoculations.
