Principle: competitive binding between sample caffeine and G6PDH-labeled caffeine for antibody sites; active enzyme converts NAD to NADH; absorbance change measured spectrophotometrically. Used in clinical laboratory settings; operated by laboratory technicians. Output: quantitative caffeine concentration (µg/mL). Assists clinicians in monitoring therapeutic caffeine levels (target 8-20 µg/mL) and avoiding toxicity (>50 µg/mL) in patients, including neonates with apnea.

Clinical Evidence

Method comparison study using 110 neonate serum samples. Comparison against HPLC reference method. Results demonstrated excellent correlation (r=0.99) across the assay range. No other clinical data provided.

The statistical data revealed a slope of 1.04 µg/mL and an intercept of 0.44 µg/mL. The correlation coefficient was 0.99.
