Intended Use

VITROS dHDL Slides are used to quantitatively measure HDL cholesterol (HDLC) concentration in serum and plasma. High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol is used to evaluate the risk of developing coronary heart disease (CHD). The risk of CHD increases with lower HDL cholesterol concentrations. VITROS Chemistry Products Calibrator Kit 25 is used to calibrate VITROS Chemistry System for the quantitative measurement of HDL cholesterol using VITROS Chemistry Products dHDL Slides. VITROS Chemistry Products Performance Verifiers I and II are assayed controls used to monitor performance on VITROS Chemistry Systems.

Device Story

VITROS Chemistry Systems are automated clinical chemistry analyzers for in vitro analyte determination. The dHDL Slide assay uses a solid-state reagent carrier to measure HDL cholesterol. Process: 1) Precipitation of non-HDL lipoproteins; 2) Detergent solubilization of HDL; 3) Enzyme-coupled colorimetric quantitation of residual cholesterol. System requires 10 µL sample (serum, heparin plasma, or EDTA plasma). Operated by laboratory personnel in clinical settings. Output is a quantitative HDL concentration (mg/dL) used by clinicians to evaluate CHD risk. System includes calibrators and assayed controls (Performance Verifiers) to ensure measurement accuracy and monitor system performance.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Precision evaluated per NCCLS EP5-A (n=88, CV% 2.5-2.7%). Linearity confirmed 5-110 mg/dL per NCCLS EP6-P. Method comparison (n=134-168) against CDC-traceable and commercial methods showed high correlation (r=0.996). Matrix compatibility confirmed for serum, heparin, and EDTA plasma.

Technological Characteristics

Multilayered analytical slide; polyester support; enzymatic colorimetric assay; reflectance spectrophotometry; dry chemistry format; requires VITROS Chemistry System; traceable to CDC Lipid Standardization Program.

Indications for Use

Indicated for quantitative measurement of HDL cholesterol in serum and plasma to evaluate coronary heart disease (CHD) risk in adults. No specific age or gender contraindications provided.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A lipoprotein test system is a device intended to measure lipoprotein in serum and plasma. Lipoprotein measurements are used in the diagnosis and treatment of lipid disorders (such as diabetes mellitus), atherosclerosis, and various liver and renal diseases.
