Intended Use

The Cobra Cooled Surgical Probe (Probe) is intended for the coagulation of cardiac tissue using radiofrequency (RF) energy during cardiac surgery. The Probe can be used during general surgery to coagulate soft tissues. The Probe may also be used to coagulate blood and soft tissue to produce hemostasis.

Device Story

Cobra Cooled Surgical Probe is an electrosurgical probe with a malleable or flexible shaft; used with Cobra Electrosurgical Unit (ESU). Device delivers radiofrequency (RF) energy to coagulate cardiac and soft tissues; produces hemostasis. Used in open surgical procedures by surgeons. Device features 9F shaft size, polycarbonate tip, and 2 to 7 electrodes. Provides thermal coagulation via RF energy; cooling mechanism integral to probe function. Surgeon controls energy delivery to achieve desired tissue effect; output affects clinical decision-making by enabling precise tissue coagulation and hemostasis during surgery. Benefits include effective tissue management during cardiac and general surgical interventions.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Non-clinical tests conducted in accordance with 21 CFR Part 58 (GLP) confirmed the device met design-input criteria and is safe and effective for its intended use.

Technological Characteristics

Electrosurgical probe; 9F shaft; polycarbonate tip; 2-7 electrodes (6-12.5 mm). Energy source: RF energy via Cobra ESU. Sterilization: Ethylene Oxide (EO). Form factor: Malleable or flexible shaft (15-35 cm).

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients undergoing cardiac surgery requiring cardiac tissue coagulation, or general surgery requiring soft tissue coagulation and hemostasis.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

An electrosurgical cutting and coagulation device and accessories is a device intended to remove tissue and control bleeding by use of high-frequency electrical current.
