Intended Use

The Perf (Ommaya Style) Reservoir is intended as a means of gaining access to the cerebral ventricles by hypodermic puncture. It may be used for ventricular drainage. The Perf (Ommaya Style) Reservoir may be used to access the ventricles for the administration of chemotherapeutic agents and/or radioisotopes.

Device Story

The Perf (Ommaya Style) Reservoir is an implantable device providing access to cerebral ventricles. It functions as a port for hypodermic puncture, allowing clinicians to perform ventricular drainage or deliver therapeutic agents, such as chemotherapeutic drugs or radioisotopes, directly into the ventricular system. The device is used in a clinical or surgical setting by neurosurgeons or qualified medical professionals. By providing a reliable, percutaneous access point, the reservoir facilitates repeated access to the ventricles without requiring repeated invasive procedures, thereby benefiting patients undergoing long-term treatment or monitoring.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data provided; bench testing only.

Technological Characteristics

Implantable reservoir for central nervous system fluid access. Form factor designed for subcutaneous placement with access via hypodermic puncture. Class II device (Product Code JXG).

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients requiring access to cerebral ventricles for drainage or administration of chemotherapeutic agents and/or radioisotopes via hypodermic puncture.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A central nervous system fluid shunt is a device or combination of devices used to divert fluid from the brain or other part of the central nervous system to an internal delivery site or an external receptacle for the purpose of relieving elevated intracranial pressure or fluid volume (e.g., due to hydrocephalus). Components of a central nervous system shunt include catheters, valved catheters, valves, connectors, and other accessory components intended to facilitate use of the shunt or evaluation of a patient with a shunt.
