Intended Use
The BowTi Anterior Buttress Staple System, in conjunction with traditional rigid fixation, is intended for use in spinal fusion procedures as a means to maintain the relative position of weak bony tissue such as allografts or autografts. This device is not intended for load bearing applications.
Device Story
BowTi Anterior Buttress Staple System is a spinal fixation accessory; consists of titanium alloy staples and self-tapping cancellous screws. Staple features two prongs for vertebral body engagement to prevent rotation and a screw slot for final fixation; 5-degree bend; available in 20mm and 24mm sizes. Screws have 6.25mm major diameter; available in 20mm, 25mm, and 30mm lengths. Used in spinal fusion procedures to maintain position of bone grafts; intended for use alongside traditional rigid fixation systems. Not for load-bearing applications. Operated by surgeons in clinical/OR settings. Provides mechanical stabilization of graft material to facilitate fusion.
Clinical Evidence
Bench testing only. Biomechanical testing, including static and fatigue cantilever beam loading, was conducted to evaluate performance.
Technological Characteristics
Materials: Titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) per ASTM F-136. Components: Staples (20mm, 24mm) with 5-degree bend and two prongs; self-tapping cancellous screws (6.25mm diameter, 20-30mm lengths). Finish: Smooth anodized. Mechanical fixation principle. Non-load bearing.
Indications for Use
Indicated for patients undergoing spinal fusion procedures requiring maintenance of relative position of weak bony tissue (allografts or autografts) in conjunction with traditional rigid fixation. Not for load-bearing applications.
Regulatory Classification
Identification
A spinal intervertebral body fixation orthosis is a device intended to be implanted made of titanium. It consists of various vertebral plates that are punched into each of a series of vertebral bodies. An eye-type screw is inserted in a hole in the center of each of the plates. A braided cable is threaded through each eye-type screw. The cable is tightened with a tension device and it is fastened or crimped at each eye-type screw. The device is used to apply force to a series of vertebrae to correct “sway back,” scoliosis (lateral curvature of the spine), or other conditions.
